With so many cloud storage services available nowadays, security is becoming a serious issue. Boxcryptor provides an extra layer of security to your cloud service's existing measures. Its purpose is to encrypt any data you send to your favorite cloud service. Your files will be locked with a powerful encryption protocol, before being uploaded by your main cloud application.

Boxcryptor has to be installed and launched separately from any cloud applications. A Boxcryptor online account is also required. Once the application is up and running and you are logged into your account, Boxcryptor will automatically connect to your existing cloud folders. It will create its own folder in the Finder, which you can find in the Favorites column.

The aforementioned folder contains shortcuts for your existing cloud folders. Instead of accessing a cloud folder normally, in Finder, to store data, you have to access it through the Boxcryptor folder. The stored files will be encrypted and uploaded as usual. The original files will be left unencrypted in your local folders, so you can still open them, but they will be inaccessible in your cloud folder.

Boxcryptor works with numerous cloud services, including Dropbox, Google Drive and others. You can link the application to new cloud folders in a tabbed Preferences panel, where you have to specify your login credentials and allow access to your cloud. What's more, Boxcryptor is available for mobile devices as well. This means that you can synchronize and encrypt your data on the go.

Pros

The application is capable of encrypting anything you send to your cloud folders. It provides support for numerous cloud services. The best part is that it doesn't have any significant impact on the way you use your existing cloud applications.

Cons

You can't use the free version with more than one cloud folder. An airtight security for your files, without any significant interference to your cloud applications is exactly what you can expect from Boxcryptor.
